Congratulations to all of our successful summer readers! A total of 145 young people registered to read in Preston Public Library’s “Be Creative @ Your Library” program. Little ones in the Cuddle Me group logged 563 days of being read to. Kids in the Read-To-Me group enjoyed a total of 2,143 books. Readers read a total of 40,920 minutes. Teens read 35,540 pages.

In the Read-To-Me group, the following children had over 100 books read to them: Xavier and Xia P. (420), Rose G. (155), Dartagnon L. (114). A few of our top readers in the elementary through middle school Readers group were: Solomon S. (6840), Jonathan A. (4680), Maren C. (4080) and in the Teen group Shira A. (10,454), Melissa S. (8206), Emily A. (5911).

Grand prizes for the program were $20 Preston Bucks, $10 Preston Bucks, $5 Preston Bucks, large pizza from Chic’s donated by Family Hair, Jail House Inn, Lisa’s Klip N Kurl, Preston Eye Clinic, Republican-Leader, Root River Veterinary Center, Buying Tyme, Chic’s Pizza.

Drawings were also held weekly for treats and prizes, donated by the following businesses: B & B Bowl, Foremost Farms, Weber & Judd Pharmacy, Johnson’s Hardware, Preston Foods, Sweet Stop, Trailhead Inn, Preston Motor Mart.

2008 Summer Reading

Congratulations to all of our successful summer readers! A total of 99 young people registered to read in Preston Public Library’s “Catch the Reading Bug @ Your Library” program. For the first time this year we included 0-3 year olds in our reading program. Parents read to their little ones 464 days, while kids in the Read-To-Me group enjoyed a total of 1,173 books. Readers read a total of 41,041 minutes, or 424 hours and teens read 25,757 pages.

In the Read-To-Me group, the following children had over 100 books read to them: Ian S. and Seth R. Our top readers in the elementary through middle school Readers group with over 25 hours of reading were Tyler C., Aliesha H., Hannah R., Marshall R., Delton S., Annalise S. and Gabrielle S. In the teen group, Shira A. and Janelle C. read over 5,000 pages.

Drawings were held weekly for treats and prizes, donated by the following businesses: B & B Bowl, Uncommon Charm, Chic’s Pizza, Foremost Farms, Weber Judd, Johnson’s Hardware, Preston Foods, Sweet Stop, Trailhead Inn Preston Motor Mart, One Stop, Old Maid Popcorn, and Ty Inc.

We would like to thank the following people for their help with programs: Lynn Susag, Cheryl Schumacher, Hannah Wingert, Christine, Travis and Jared Troendle.

The final drawing was done on August 30th with the following winners: Cole R. and Xavier P. won T-shirts; Sadie B., Tianna P., Jeremy O. and Julianna F. won tote bags; Dillon O. won a book pack; Katelin E. and Kelsey S. won travel mugs; and Sage G. won $20 Preston Bucks. Reptile & Amphibian Discovery Zoo of Owatonna will present a highly informative interactive program with a variety of animals including frogs, salamanders, lizards and snakes!

Summer Reading Birthday Card Program

library's 100th anniversary on Monday, June 9th.

They also signed a birthday card for Minnesota's sesquicentennial.

The card for Minnesota was sent to the Governor

after 150 people signed it.

2007 Summer Reading at Preston Public Library

Congratulations to all of our successful summer readers! A total of 82 young people registered to read in Preston Public Library’s “Go Bananas @ Your Library” program. Kids in the Read-To-Me group enjoyed a total of 1336 books. Readers read a total of 37,800 minutes, or 405 hours. Teens read 34,670 pages.

In the Read-To-Me group, the following children had over 100 books read to them: Kaylee and Kaleb A., Cailey and Chastidy R., Ian S., and Keanna W. A few of our top readers in the elementary through middle school Readers group were Kerri D. (68 hours), Delton S. (52), Annalise S. (44), Gabrielle S. (44), Cole R. (36), Alan J. (32), Julianna F. (20), and Christian H. (20). In the teen group, Shira A. was the top reader, with 15,622 pages. Other top reading teens were Janelle C. (6322 pages), Danielle B. (5927), and Kelsey S. (4532).

Drawings were held weekly for treats and prizes, donated by the following businesses: B & B Bowl, The Brickhouse, Chic’s Pizza, Foremost Farms, Haugan’s Pharmacy, Johnson’s Hardware, Preston Foods, Preston Swimming Pool, Sweet Stop, Trailhead Inn, and Ty Inc. A total of 104 prizes were awarded to our busy readers over the summer.

"FEATHERED FRIENDS" July 10, 2:00 PM

Kids of all ages! Come to the library to meet Bethany and her feathered friends. Learn how to enjoy and take care of all kinds of pet birds. This is a program you don’t want to miss!

Summer Reading Update

Bob Bovee and Gail Heil, folk musicians from Spring Grove, presented a concert at Preston Public Library for the summer reading program, “Go Bananas @Your Library, “ on June 19. Kids of all ages enjoyed traditional American folk songs. They also practiced square dancing and dancing dolls.

So far over 60 kids have signed up for Summer Reading at the Preston Library, with nearly half returning at least one reading record. Kids can sign up anytime all summer long. Summer Reading helps kids maintain their reading fitness while enjoying summer vacation.

Kids Going Bananas

Kids of all ages better be ready to “Go Bananas” this summer at the Preston Public Library. Summer reading fun will start June 4th and continue through August 31st, for ages 3 through 18. Readers may sign up anytime all summer long. Local businesses have donated goodies for weekly prize drawings. Special entertainment will be scheduled for the following Tuesday afternoons – June 19th, July 10th, and July 24th, at 2:00 PM. For more information, call the library at 507-765-4511.
